Watering is less frequent during cold periods
This is because water takes longer to evaporate when temperatures are cooler. As water keeps the soil moist for longer, it is not necessary to water your plants as often as during other times of the year, such as summer or spring.
Make sure that your plants get the light they need
At this time of year there are fewer hours of daylight during the day, so we recommend that you check the location of your plants and move them to a place where they receive the most hours of indirect but bright sunlight.
Take a look at the light needs of your plant. If it is a Poto, Zamioculca, Fern, or Peace Lily, you don't need to worry as these are plants that can survive in the shade.
But other plants that enjoy direct or abundant light such as Bonsai, Olive Tree or Fiddle Leaf Fig will appreciate being in a place with plenty of light.

Plants go into a period of hibernation
Your plants also go on holiday and take the cold seasons to rest from their leaf development processes. If you notice that your houseplants are losing some leaves, don't panic, it's normal.
When the temperatures rise again, your plant will wake up and re-enter its most active growth phase.

Avoid changing pots
Winter is not a good time to repot or re-pot your plants, as these changes require an extra effort of adaptation on the part of your plant (who just wants to be quiet during these "hibernation" periods).
We do recommend changing your plant's substrate at least once a year, but the best time to do this is during the spring or summer. During these months it is also a good idea to cut back any older branches or roots so that your plant can carry the energy to the younger, stronger shoots.

Keep them out of the cold...and away from radiators
Don't leave your houseplants outside...they could freeze to death!
Some plants are more sensitive than others, but they all generally like to stay in average temperatures of 12 to 28 degrees. Placing your plant on or next to a radiator is condemning it to burn to death.

Watch humidity levels
If you notice that the tips of your leaves are brown, this is mainly due to a lack of humidity, the result of using heaters during the winter. To counteract this, simply spray your plants from time to time. Alternatively, you can buy a humidifier and place it near your plants.
