Venus Flytrap
Dionaea Muscipula
Advice
Position in a sunny spot, but protect from harsh midday sun. Use a proper carnivorous plant soil mix for best results.
Fun facts
The Venus Flytrap has long captured imaginations, inspiring myths and stories of carnivorous plants. Its delicate structure, capable of snapping shut at an alarmingly swift pace of about a tenth of a second, opens a world of wonder. Interestingly, each trap only closes a limited number of times (about 3-4) before it retires to absorb nutrients — making it a renewable, albeit finite, fascination. It has been rumoured that a well-talked-to Venus Flytrap grows faster, thanks to the vibrations they can detect, though perhaps it’s just an excuse to chat with this intriguing green housemate.
Signs of weakness
If your Venus Flytrap is feeling under the weather, it might show soft, blackening traps or an overall droopy appearance. Make sure it's receiving adequate light and the right type of water!
