Aspidistra

Advice

  • Light: Prefers low light or partial shade. Avoid direct sun exposure.
  • Watering: Water the plant moderately, allowing the substrate to dry out between waterings to avoid waterlogging.
  • Humidity: It adapts well to different humidity levels, but prefers environments with moderate humidity.
  • Fertilisation: Fertilise the plant with a balanced fertiliser during spring and summer to promote healthy growth.
  • Pruning: Trim off damaged or yellowing leaves to keep the plant healthy and encourage new growth.
  • Cleaning: Regularly dust the leaves with a damp cloth to keep them free of obstructions and allow for better photosynthesis.
  • Pest control: Inspect the plant periodically for signs of pests such as spider mites or mealy bugs and treat as necessary.
  • Transplant: Transplant Aspidistra to a slightly larger pot when the roots have completely filled its current container, usually every two to three years.
  • Temperature: Prefer moderate temperatures, avoid sudden temperature changes and protect the plant from cold draughts.
  • Winter rest: During the winter, reduce the amount of water and fertiliser slightly to allow a period of rest.

Signs of weakness

  • Yellow or wilted leaves: This may indicate a lack or excess of watering.
  • Loss of colour on the leaves: This may be a sign of lack of light.
