In North America, Canada, India, and Japan, oxygen bars have become popular. It sounds like something out of a science fiction movie about a post-apocalyptic future, but the truth is that the quality of the air we breathe leaves a lot to be desired, especially for those of us who live in cities, always full of cars and people.

Perhaps these types of establishments are not yet a real necessity for the common citizen, but we cannot deny that we are all concerned about what we breathe on a daily basis. One way to improve the indoor air in our home is by using purifying plants. Believe it or not, there are several species that have this super power. Get to know the top plants to purify the air in your environment and the basic characteristics of their care.
Do I need to purify the air in my environment?
Outdoor pollution comes from a variety of sources, such as smoke from cars and factories, but inside the home air pollution is born in smoke from stoves, fireplaces and tobacco. Also, in the environment there are toxic molecules from paint, solvents and glue used to make furniture and other utilitarian elements, in addition to chemicals used for cleaning, pesticides and even carbon monoxide.
If you are
one of those who lock yourself in winter and summer, to maintain the temperature, or you are in a closed office where there are no windows or any form of ventilation, the pollution problem gets worse. In fact, there is what is known as the "sick office syndrome", which includes a series of physical symptoms that can lead to asthma and bronchitis. The good news is that you can improve this situation with the help of some plants.
How do plants clean the air?
The fact that purification plants are able to process and remove these pollutants is not an act of magic, but a real and natural process, as has been proven. Some scientists have shown that certain types of plants are able to absorb toxic substances through their leaves, cleaning it through a process called phytoremediation; which can occur in three distinct processes.
Phytostimulation is the process in which microbiotic activity in soils is increased, allowing pollutants to degrade. Phytotransformation is a process in which the metabolism of the purifying plant chemically modifies toxic substances; and phytovolatization, in which the plant absorbs these pollutants and eliminates them through transpiration.
